Roberts Drives in 6 to Help Lead Troy Gray Past Greenville White in Season Opener

Greenville — Boston Roberts went 4 of 5 driving in six runs on his four hits and a run scoring walk to help lead Troy Gray past Greenville White 24-0. 

 

The top of the first innings saw Troy Gray jump on top quickly scoring 5 runs on 2 hits and 6 walks. Evan Jones lead off the inning hitting a single. The next two batters, Luke Welker and Kaito Taketani walked to fill the bases. Clean-up batter Liam Westerfield also drew a walk scoring Evan Jones for the first run of the game. Next up, Boston Roberts, hit a hard line drive to right center field scoring Welker and Taketani. With Westerfield on third, Troy loaded the bases again with Kenny Seger and Eric Colbertson both reaching base on walks.  After a strikeout, Wyatt Koester worked a walk forcing Westerfield across the plate scoring the 5th run in the inning.

Troy Gray scored 10 runs on 5 hits in the top of the second inning. Boston Roberts drew a walk scoring one run. Eric Colbertson was hit-by-a-pitch with bases loaded to score a run. Luke Welker singled scoring a run and two batters later,  Liam Westerfield singled to plate two more runs. This was followed by Boston Roberts hitting a single scoring two.  Greenville White committed two errors in the inning.

Troy Gray scored six runs on four hits in the top of the third. Luke Welker singled scoring a run. Kaito Taketani hit a sacrifice fly scoring a run. The next batter, Liam Westerfield doubled scoring another run. Boston Roberts followed up with a single scoring a run.  With bases loaded, Will Ripley drew a walk plating another run. Evan Jones got in the scoring action and singled scoring one run. 

Troy Gray didn't score any runs in the fourth inning.

In the fifth inning, Troy Gray scored 3 runs after starting off the inning with two outs and no one on.  Will Rippey singled to left field.  The first pitch to the next batter Evan Jones was a wild pitch letting Rippey advanced to second.  Jones then rips a double on the next pitch to left center scoring Rippey.  Luke Welker followed up with a double of his own to left center scoring Jones.  After Kaito Taketani walked and Liam Westerfield reached base on a fielding error to load the bases, Boston Roberts hit a ground ball between shortstop and thrid base for a single - scoring Welker from third. 

 

Kaito Taketani earned the win for Troy Gray.  The right-handed pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking one.

 

Evan Jones and Luke Welker each came in relief for Troy Gray and shutdown Greenville White to complete the no hitter.  Welker walked one and struck out 3. Jones walked zero and struck out 2.

 

Ryker Marshall took the loss for Greenville White.

Troy Gray accumulated 16 hits in the win with five players collecting multiple hits. Liam Westerfield (3 for 4), Kenny Seger (2 for 4), Evan Jones (2 of 4), Luke Welker (3 of 5) and Boston Roberts (4 of 5). Kaito Taketani lead the team with three walks. 

Overall, the team had patience at the plate piling up 15 walks for the game. 

Troy Gray stole 6 bases in the game with Liam Westerfield and Kaito Taketani each stealing multiple bases.

Troy Gray was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.

Troy Gray Defeats West Carrollton

Troy - Troy Gray defeated West Carrollton on Monday at Duke Park.  This despite the fact Troy Gray had to come back from trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.

 

The game was tied 0-0 heading into the top of the third. That’s when West Carrollton drew first blood breaking the tie by scoring four runs. West Carrollton’s Matt Havens drew a bases loaded walk to score the first run for West Carrollton. Sean Flynn singled, scoring a run and Greg Lilly also singled scoring two runs.  But that’s all the scoring Troy Gray would allow.

 

The bottom of the fourth saw Troy Gray flip the game on its head by scoring seven runs on five hits to take the lead they would never relinquish.

 

Troy Gray’s Evan Jones started the inning off with a hard hit double to the left field fence. Luke Welker then singled to right field advancing Jones to third. The next batter Kaito Taketani drew a walk to load the bases for Liam Westerfield.  Westerfield hit a slow infield grounder just past the pitcher allowing Evan Jones to score and all runners safe.  Boston Roberts then hit a ground ball that the West Carrollton second baseman mishandled allowing both Taketani and Welker to score and moving Westerfield to third. Kenny Seger then hit a hard line drive up the middle scoring Westerfield from third and advancing Roberts to second. Eric Colbertson continued the scoring by hitting a hard line drive single to right field plating Robertson and advancing Seger to second - giving Troy Gray the lead 5-4.  Seger and Colberston both moved up a base on a passed ball. After a bunt pop out, with Wyatt Koester at the plate, Seger scored on another passed ball and Colbertson moved to third. Koester then walked.  Troy Gray finished scorning in the inning when Colbertson crossed home plate on the third passed ball of the inning.

 

In the bottom of the fifth, Troy added two more insurance runs. After a lead-off strikeout, Liam Westerfield hit a fly ball single to center field. Westerfield then stole second. Boston Roberts hit a fly ball single to left field advancing Westerfield to third. Roberts then took second base on defensive indifference. Kenny Seger hit a sacrifice fly that was caught by the second baseman in shallow right center field, but it was just deep enough to score Westerfield from third.  On the throw home, Roberts advanced to third. Eric Colbertson collected his third hit in as many plate appearances with a line drive to center field, scoring Robertson.

 

Liam Westerfield started the game for Troy Gray.  Westerfield allowed zero hits and one run over two innings of work striking out six and walking three. Evan Jones threw one inning in relief giving up three runs on two hits with two strikeouts and three base on balls.  Boston Roberts worked three innings giving up zero hits and zero runs with seven strikeouts and no walks. Kaito Taketani pitched the last inning of the game with zero runs, hits or walks allowed while striking out two.

One Troy Gray player collected multiple hits in the game. Liam Westerfield went 2 for 3. Westerfield, Colbertson and Wyatt Koester all stole a base.

Troy Gray Impressive in Win Against Greenville Green

Troy - Troy Gray continued their winning ways on a cold Friday night with a 9-2 win over Greenville Green.

For a second game in a row, Troy allowed the opposition to take the early lead.  A ground ball in the top of the first inning scored one run for Greenville.

Troy captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the first.  Evan Jones took a lead off walk and then stole second. Luke Welker reached first base on an error when the Greenville pitcher dropped Welker's infield pop-up.  Kaito Taketani then walked to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Liam Westerfield grounded into a fielder's choice, SS to 3B, forcing Welker out at third but scoring Evan Jones from third to tie the game at 1-1. Boston Roberts hit a ground ball between the shortstop and third base safely advancing all baserunners to load the bases again.  The next batter Kenny Seger then hits a hard grounder up the middle into center field scoring both Westerfield and Taketani and advancing Roberts to second.  Eric Colbertson takes four straight balls to load the bases. Wes Todd hit a fielders choice grounder to the shortsop who threw to the second baseman covering the bag to force out Colbertson but scoring Robertson to give Troy a 4-1 lead.

Starting pitcher Liam Westerfield only faced three Greenville batters in the top of the second.  Westerfield induced two ground outs to second baseman Wes Todd and struck the third Greenville batter out.

 

Troy Gray added one run in the second. After a lead off pop out and a ground out, Kaito Taketani hit a fly ball single to right field. Two pitches into Liam Westerfield's at bat,  Taketani stole second. After starting his at bat down 0-2, Westerfield battled and drew a walk.  On the first pitch at his at bat, Boston Roberts rocketed a double over left fielders head scoring Westerfield for a Troy Gray lead of 5-1.

 

In the top of third, Greenville green scored one run. The last of the game for the visiting team.

 

Troy Gray retaliated in the bottom of the third scoring two runs. Kenny Seger lead off the inning reaching base on an error by Greenville's second baseman. One out later, Seger stole second. Wes Todd walks. Wyatt Koester grounded out to the shortstop but it advanced the base runners to second and third. A wild pitch with Evan Jones at the plate scored Seger from third and Todd advancing to third. Jones then walked. The Greenville pitcher then balked, scoring Todd from third making the score 7-2 in favor of Troy Gray.

Troy Gray scored one run in the bottom of the fourth. Kaito Taketani lead the inning off with a ground ball single. Taketani then stole second.  The next two batters struck out. Kenny Seger hit a line drive to left field scoring Taketani.  The throw from the left fielder didn't get Taketani at the plate, but the catchers throw to second base got Seger trying to advance for the third out of the inning. 

Troy Gray scored one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Liam Westerfield walked.  He then stole second. A single by Boston Roberts scored Westerfield.

Starting pitcher Liam Westerfield recorded the win for Troy Gray.  He surrendered one hit and two runs (one earned) over three innings of work. Westerfield struck out two and walked two. Eric Colbertson, Evan Jones and Boston Roberts each threw scoreless innings in relief.

Kenny Seger led Troy Gray with three RBI's.  The first baseman went 2 for 3.  Boston Roberts stayed hot by going 3 for 4 to lead the team in hits. Kaito Taketani went 2 for 3.  Troy Gray again showed patience at the plate by collecting nine walks.

Troy Gray stole seven bases on the day with Kaito Taketani and Eric Colbertson each stealing multiple bases.

Jones Helps Lead Troy Gray Past Xenia

Troy - Evan Jones collected three hits in three at-bats as Troy Gray defeated Xenia 16-3 on Saturday at Duke Park. Jones singled twice in the first inning and once in the second inning. 

 

For a third time in a row, Troy Gray allowed the opposition to take the early lead.  Xenia got on the board in the top of the first inning scoring one run on a single by C.J. McCray and one run on a wild pitch. 

Troy Gray answered by scoring 11 runs in the bottom of the first  inning, sending 17 batters to the plate on the way to the victory.

An error scored two runs. Boston Roberts doubled scoring a run. Kenny Seger drew a walk scoring a run.  Wyatt Koester singled scoring a run. Evan Jones singled scoring two runs. Luke Welker singled scoring one run. Kaito Taketani doubled scoring one run. Liam Westerfield doubled scoring a run and an error scored a run.  When the first inning was over, Troy Gray was up 11-2.

Troy Gray extended their lead to 13-2 in the bottom of the second inning.  With one out, Evan Jones hit a line drive single to left field. During Luke Welker's at-bat, Jones stole second and then third.  Welker then hit a sharp ground ball that the Xenia third baseman made an error on scoring Jones from thrid. Kaito Taketani singled placing runners on first and second. Liam Westerfield walked.  Boston Roberts then hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Welker.

The top of the third saw Xenia score their last run of the game bring the score to 13-3.

Troy continued to score in the bottom half of the third. Wyatt Koester lead the inning off with a fly ball single to left field. He then stole second base. Evan Jones walked. Luke Welker hit a fly ball single to left field, scoring Koester and advancing Jones to second. Jones then took third base and Welker took second base on defensive indifference. Kaito Taketani hit a ground ball to the shortstop and beat the throw for a single, scoring Jones from third.  Welker had to hold at second.  The end of the third had Troy Gray up 15-3.

Troy Gray scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth. Kenny Seger lead the inning off with a line drive to right field. The next batter Logan Hackney hit into a fielders choice, forcing Seger out at second. Waylon Smith drew a walk. With two outs, Evan Jones walked to load the bases. Luke Welker followed up with a walk forcing Hackney home from third to bring the game to the final score of 16-3

Starting pitcher Luke Welker earned the win for Troy Gray.  The righty surrendered four hits and three runs over three innings of work.  Welker struck out 5 and gave up no walks. Kaito Taketani pitched two shutout innings in relief for the 5 inning run rule.  Taketani gave up no hits, struck out two and walked zero. 

Troy Gray tallied 14 hits and collected 6 walks in the game. Kaito Taketani and Evan Jones each collected three hits for Troy Gray. Luke Welker went 2-4 at the plate as the right-handed batter lead the team with four RBI's. Wyatt Koester went 2-3. Kaito Taketani, Boston Roberts and Liam Westerfield all hit doubles.  Troy Gray stole a total of nine bases. Wyatt Koester and Kenny Seger stole one base.  Kaito Taketani stole two and Evan Jones lead the stealing by taking five.

Troy Gray Loses Despite Out Hitting Fairborn

Troy - Even though Troy Gray collected five hits to Fairborn's four hits, they still fell 7-3 on Tuesday at Duke Park. Kaito Taketani led Troy Gray with two hits. One single and a triple.

This was the fourth game in a row that Troy Gray allowed the opposing team to score first - and it finally caught up with them. 

Fairborn tallied five runs in the top of the first off of three hits, two walks and three Troy Gray errors. 

Troy Gray couldn't come back from the deficit. 

Starting pitcher Boston Roberts took the loss for Troy Gray.  Roberts gave up five runs (two earned) on three hits and walking two.  The three errors cost Troy Gray three of the five runs. Kaito Taketani came in relief throwing four innings giving up one run on one hit, three walks and six strikeouts. Liam Westerfield threw a third of an inning allowing one run with 3 walks and one strikeout. Kenny Seger finished the game pitching two third of an inning.  Troy Gray pitchers had an off day throwing a combined total of 8 walks.

At the plate, Troy Gray had an off day also.  Only one player collected multiple hits.  Kaito Taketani went 2 for 2 with a single, a triple and a walk.

Four players stole one base each. Kaito Taketani, Wyatt Koester, Kenny Seger and Luke Welker.

Close Game Between Troy Gray And Piqua Red Ends In Tie

Troy - Troy Gray and Piqua Red tied on Saturday.

Troy Gray got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning after Kaito Taketani doubled and Luke Welker singled - each scoring one run.

In the top of the second, Piqua Red got on the board with a lead off walk. After two passed balls, the Piqua Red lead off batter was on third. Piqua's Grissom doubled scoring the runner on third to make the game 2-1.

But Troy Gray answered back in the bottom of the inning.  Wyatt Koester led the inning off by working a six pitch walk. Will Rippey hit a line drive single moving Koester to second. After a great sacrifice bunt by Wesley Todd, advancing the base runners to second and third, Kenny Seger hit a line drive to right field scoring Koester. But a perfect throw from the right fielder was in time to get Rippey tagged out at the plate as he tried to get home. Troy Gray ended the inning with a 3-1 lead.

The top of the third saw Piqua Red battling back.  With one out, Piqua Red's Lavey walked.  He then went to second on defensive indifference. He then went to third on a passed ball. Piqua Red's Hickerson hit a ground ball deep enough to third baseman Boston Roberts to score Hickerson from third.  The inning ended with Boston Roberts scooping up a hard hit grounder deep along the foul line.  Roberts made an accurate long throw to get the Piqua Red batter out by a step. Troy Gray lead cut to 3-2.

Troy Gray added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth scoring three runs. With one out, Kenny Seger drew a walk and then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Evan Jones walked and then took second on defensive indifference. Kaito Taketani then hit a solid line drive to left center field scoring both Seger and Jones.  Taketani then stole second. Boston Roberts hit a line drive to center field scoring Taketani making the score 6-2 in favor of Troy Gray.

The top of the fifth inning saw Piqua Red tie the game capitalizing on two Troy Gray errors. Those two errors allowed three of the four runs scored to tie the game.

 

The bottom of the seventh, Troy Gray had their chance to win the game.  Boston Roberts lead the inning off with a single.  Then stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball.  With no outs and the winning run on third, the next two batters were unable lay down a bunt to score Roberts from third.  The last batter was out at first on a dropped third strike. 

Starting pitcher Luke Welker threw four good innings giving up only two hits, two unearned runs, while striking out three and walking two. Boston Roberts came in relief for Welker. He threw a third of an inning giving up 3 hits, four runs (two earned) and walked one. Kaito Taketani finished the game going two and two thirds innings allowing no hits, no runs, no walks and striking out two. Out of six runs scored by Piqua Red, only two were earned due to the four errors committed by Troy Gray.

Offensively, Troy Gray was lead by Kaito Taketani and Boston Roberts who both went 2 for 4. Taketani had three RBI's to lead the team.  Kenny Seger and Taketani each hit doubles.  Taketani, Seger, Jones and Welker all stole one base while Roberts stole two.

Three Troy Gray Errors Help Lead to Piqua Blue Win

Troy - Troy Gray fell to Piqua Blue 5-2 on Monday at Duke Park.

Piqua Blue got on the board first in the top half of the first inning after Luke Jensvold singled scoring a run.

But Troy Gray captured the lead in the bottom of the same inning scoring two of their own. Kenny Seger started the home half of the first with a lead off walk then he stole second. One out later, Kaito Taketani hit a double to deep left field scoring Seger. Luke Welker hit a ground ball that was fielded by the Piqua Blue's shortstop, but the shortstop made an error on the throw to first allowing Taketani to score. 

There was no scoring until Piqua Blue tied the game in the top of the sixth. With two outs and no one on, Piqua Blue's Hinkle walked. He then stole second. The next batter hit a single, putting runners on the corners with two outs. Hinkle then scored on a wild pitch tying the game at 2-2.

In the top of the seventh, Piqua Blue added three more runs to pad their lead on a walk, two singles and two Troy Gray errors.  That's all Piqua Blue needed to win the game 5-2.

Starting pitcher Kaito Taketani went five solid innings giving up three hits, one run, six strikeouts and three walks. Evan Jones came in relief pitching one and a third inning giving up three hits, four runs (two earned), two strikeouts and four walks. Boston Roberts finished the game tossing one third of an inning, giving up no hits or runs and striking out one.

 

Offensively, Troy Gray could only muster three hits for the game. Kenny Seger went 1 for 2 for the game with a walk. Kaito Taketani went 1 for 3 with a double and RBI. Luke Welker also went 1 for 3.

Jones Big Day Helps Troy Gray Past Tipp City

Troy - Troy Gray got back on the winning track defeating Tipp City 18-4 on Monday at Duke Park.

For only the second time this season, Troy Gray didn't allow the opposing team to score first. For the first time this season, Troy Gray scored in every inning. 

Evan Jones collected three hits in three at-bats as Troy Gray defeated Tipp City 18-4 on Tuesday at Duke Park. Jones doubled in the first inning. Doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the third inning.

 

Troy Gray got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning after Kaito Taketani singled scoring two runs. Luke Welker hit a sacrifice fly scoring a run. Wyatt Koester drew a bases loaded walk to score a run.  Will Rippey grounded out scoring a run. Kenny Seger singled scoring one run and Evan Jones doubled scoring one run. After the third out, Troy Gray was up 8-0.

In the home half of the second inning, Troy Gray continued to score. Boston Roberts was hit by a pitch then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Luke Welker walked. Roberts then scored on a wild pitch with Welker moving up to second. Welker then went to third on a wild pitch. And one pitch later, the Tipp City pitcher threw his fourth wild pitch in the inning allowing Welker to score.  At the end of two complete, Troy Gray was up 10-0.

Troy Gray scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning.  Evan Jones singled scoring a run. Kaito Taketani singled scoring a run.  Luke Welker doubled scoring two runs and a wild pitch scored a run. 

The fourth inning saw Troy Gray tack on three more runs. Miles Roesser started the inning off with a fly ball single.  Kenny Seger then walked. Evan Jones then doubled to left center scoring Roesser and moving Seger to third. Kaito Taketani singled, scoring Seger and moving Jones to third.  Boston Roberts hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Jones. Troy Gray up 18-3.

Tipp City was able to plate one run in the top of the fifth, but that wasn't enough. Troy Gray won in a run rule 18-4.

Luke Welker provided pop in the middle of the line up and lead Troy Gray with three RBI's. Other notables for offense, Evan Jones went 3 for 3, 2 doubles,1 walk and 2 RBI's. Kenney Seger went 1 for 2, 2 walks and 1 RBI. Miles Roesser went 1 for 1 and 1 walk.  Boston Roberts was hit-by-pitch twice in the game.

 

Starting pitcher Liam Westerfield got the win for Troy Gray. The right-handed pitcher surrendered zero hits and zero runs over three innings. Westerfield struck out three and walked three. Kenney Seger came in relief and finished the game going two innings giving up three hits and four runs - striking out 3 while walking 5

Troy Gray Unleashes an Offensive Barrage in Win Against Mad River

Dayton - Troy Gray kept the bats alive for the second day in a row defeating Mad River 39-4 on Weds at Mad River. In two days, Troy Gray has scored 57 runs on 36 hits, collected 27 walks and only 9 strikeouts.

Troy Gray jumped out to take the lead in the top of the first inning scoring five runs. One run scored by Troy capitalizing on a Mad River error with Kenny Seger on third. Boston Roberts hit a single scoring two runs and Wyatt Koester singled scoring two runs.  Troy Gray up 5-0 early.

Mad River scored one run in the bottom of the first on two hit batsmen, a walk and a single.

Troy Gray added to their lead by scoring three more runs in the top of the second. Boston Roberts singled scoring a run.  Luke Welker it a triple scoring a run and Wyatt Koester laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to score the third rum of the inning.

But Mad River still fought scoring three runs in the bottom of the second on a single, two walks, a hit batsman and a two run error.  Mad River would score no more.

The top of the third saw Troy Gray score 17 runs putting the game way out of reach for Mad River. Kenny Seger drew a walk scoring a run. Evan Jones hit a single scoring two runs. Kaito Taketani singled to score a run. Luke Welker doubled scoring a run. Wes Todd drew a bases loaded walk for a run. Kenny Seger scored a run getting hit-by-pitch. For their second at-bat's of the inning, Evan Jones, Boston Roberts, Wyatt Koester and Waylon Smith (first at-bat) all walked - each scoring a run. Luke Welker singled in a run. Liam Westerfield was hit-by-pitch scoring a run and Wes Todd doubled to bring in two.  Mad River committed two errors in the inning which contributed two runs. By the end of the third, Troy Gray had the game well in hand up 25-4.

In the top of the fourth, Troy Gray crossed the plate three more times. Evan Jones singled. Kaito Taketani walked.  Then the Mad River centerfielder made an error on Boston Roberts fly ball scoring Jones.  Luke Welker grounded out to the pitcher but it allowed Taketani to score from third. Miles Roesser hit a ground out to the first baseman, but it didn't stop Roberts from scoring from third. Troy Gray's lead climbed to 28-4.

Troy Gray wasn't done scoring in the top of the fourth - to the tune of 11 more runs. Evan Jones singled scoring a run. Kaito Taketani walked scoring a run. Boston Roberts doubled scoring two runs. Liam Westerfield singled scoring two runs. Waylon Smith grounded out scoring a run. Wes Todd singled scoring a run. And in Evan Jones second at-bat in the inning, he hit a triple scoring two runs.  Mad River again contributed to the Troy Gray lead on an error allowing a run to score. 

Boston Roberts started on the hill for Troy Gray. The started gave up two hits and four runs (two earned) over three innings of work. Wes Todd came in relief of Roberts and finished the game.  The right-handed pitcher tossed two perfect innings allowing no hits or runs while striking out one and walking two.

Troy Gray Too Much For Sidney

Troy - Troy Gray continued to collect double digit hits for the third day in a row defeating Sidney 10-2 on Thursday at Duke Park. In three consecutive days, Troy Gray has plated a total of 67 runs on 48 hits. Collected 31walks and only 11 strikeouts.  While their defense and pitching has only allowed 10 runs.

Troy Gray opened the scoring in the home half of the first inning. With two outs and no one on, Kaito Taketani singled up the middle and then stole second.  Boston Roberts hit a line drive to left field scoring Taketani. Roberts advanced to second on the throw home. Luke Welker hit a hard ground ball single between the shortstop and third baseman scoring Roberts.  Troy Gray 2 - Sidney 0

There wasn't any scoring until Troy Gray came up in the bottom of the third and added three more runs. Kenney Seger lead the inning off with a walk then stole second. Evan Jones singled and scored when the Sidney Third baseman made an error. Jones then stole second and third. Boston Roberts scored Jones with a hard line drive to left field. Roberts went to second on defensive indifference. Luke Welker singled scoring Roberts. Welker stole second. Wyatt Koester singled to center field.  Welker was thrown out at the plate trying to score. Troy Gray 5 - Sidney 0

Sidney scored one run in the top of the fifth.

But Troy Gray answer that by scoring five runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.  Evan Jones started the inning by legging out an infield single. Kaito Taketani singled to left field.  Boston Roberts also legged out an infield single to load the bases. Two outs later and the bases still loaded, Wes Todd walked, forcing Jones home. Will Rippey hit a line drive single to left field scoring both Roberts and Taketani. Rippey took second on defensive indifference. Wes Todd then scored on a wild pitch and Rippey advanced to third. Kenny Seger hit a single scoring Rippey for the last run of the inning.  Troy Gray 10 -  Sidney 1.

Sidney scored one run in the top of the sixth and that was the time limit.

Luke Welker took the win for Troy Gray.  Welker threw a complete game tallying only 77 total pitches.  Welker was in control the hold game giving up five hits and two runs over six innings, walking only two. 

Troy Gray collected 12 hits in their win.  Boston Roberts lead the way going 3 for 3 and 2RBI's. Evan Jones went 2 for 3 and a walk.  Kaito Taketani went 2 for 4. Troy Gray walked four times and only struck out twice.  Troy Gray committed no errors.

Troy Gray Continues Offensive Power in Win at Tipp City

Tipp City - Troy Gray continued to collect double digit hits for the fourth day in a row defeating Tipp City on Friday at Kyle Park in Tipp City. Troy Gray tallied 14 hits with 3 walks and only 2 strikeouts in the 15-8 win.

Kenny Seger lead the top of the first off with a single and stole second. Evan Jones flew out deep enough to right field allowing Seger to tag up and move to third. Boston Roberts was hit-by-pitch and Luke Welker walked to load the bases. Wyatt Koester hit a ground ball fielders choice forcing Roberts out at third but scoring Seger. Koester moved to second on a throwing error by the third baseman. Wesley Todd then hit a a double scoring both Welker and Koester making the score 3-0 in favor of Troy Gray.

But Tipp City tied the game in the bottom of the first on two walks, a triple and a sacrifice fly.

With two outs and no one on in the top of the second, Troy Gray was able to plate one run for the lead they would never relinquish. Kenney Seger walked. Evan Jones was hit-by-pitch. The Tipp City pitcher balked moving the runners up to second and third. Kenny Seger then scored on a wild pitch of the only run of the inning. 

Tipp City was held scoreless in the bottom of the third.

The top of the third saw Troy Gray extend their lead by scoring seven runs. Luke Welker started the inning off with a deep fly ball to center field. Wes Todd was hit-by-pitch. Todd the went to second on defensive indifference.  Will Rippey grounded out but scored Welker from third and because of good base running, Todd scored also. Liam Westerfield then hit a seeing eye infield pop-up for a single. Miles Roesser hit a pop-up single just beyond the second baseman which also advanced Westerfield to third. Roesser goes to second on defensive indifference. Kenny Seger reached first base after he hit a ground ball the Tipp City's second baseman who made a fielding error on the play which scored Westfield. Seger then went to second on defensive indifference. Evan Jones singled up the middle scoring  Roesser, but the center fielder miss played the grounder which allowed him to move to second and scored Seger. Boston Roberts hit a ground ball to the shortstop who committed a fielding error scoring Jones. Roberts stole second. Luke Welker drove in the final run of the inning by hitting a double to center field scoring Roberts.  Troy Gray 11, Tipp City 3.

Troy Gray was scoreless in the bottom of the fourth and Tipp City was scoreless in the bottom of the third and fourth. 

Troy Gray tacked on two runs in the top of the fifth. For the third time in the game, Kenny Seger lead the inning off by getting on base.  He hit a single. One out later, Boston Roberts hit a hard fly ball triple down the right field line scoring Seger.  Luke Welker followed that up with a run scoring fly ball single. 

Tipp City scored one unearned run in the bottom of the fifth on two walks, a hit-by-pitch and an error.

Troy Gray scored two more runs in the top of the sixth. With two outs and no one on, Kenny Seger singles and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Then to third on a passed ball. Evan Jones hit a single scoring Seger.  Boston Roberts then hit his second triple of the night scoring Jones for the second run of the inning.

Reaching the 2hr time limit for the game, Tipp City had one more chance on the bottom of the sixth - and they wouldn't go quietly.  Tipp City scored four runs on three Troy Gray errors, a walk and a triple. But wasn't enough and Troy Gray won 15-8.

Wes Todd was the starting pitcher for Troy Gray and got the win. Todd went four full innings giving up 2 hits and four runs on 4 strikeouts and 5 walks. Westerfield then cam in relief for one inning allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out 2 and walking 1. Kenny Seger came in and pitched the final inning.  Seger gave up 1 hit and 4 runs (none of them were earned) with 2 strikeouts and a walk. 

Troy Gray had double digits in hits again. They accumulated 14 hits with 3 walks and only 2 strikeouts. Kenny Seger went 3 for 4 and a walk.  Seger didn't have any RBI's, but he got on base, so he led the team with 5 runs scored.  Luke Welker went 3 for 4 also. For the second time this season Welker was going for the cycle. He had a single, double and triple. Falling a HR short of the cycle.  Welker had 3RBI's and a walk.  Wed Todd went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI's. Two batters went 2 for 4.  Evan Jones with 2RBI's and Boston Roberts who had 2 triples and 2RBI's.   

Troy Gray uncharacteristically committed 4 errors.

Troy Gray Takes Lead And Never Looks Back In Win Over Troy Scarlet

Troy - Troy Gray easily dispatched Troy Scarlet on Saturday at Duke Park.

 

Both teams were scoreless in the first two innings. But in the bottom of the third, Troy Scarlet broke the stalemate by scoring one run on four consecutive singles to take the lead 1-0.

 

Troy Gray took the lead in the top of the fourth.  With two outs and no one on, Luke Welker hit a single then advanced to second on the throw. Wyatt Koester hit an infield single moving Welker to third. Welker then scored on a wild pitch to even the game score 1-1 while Koester moved to second. Koester then went to third on a passed ball. Wes Todd walked.  Koester scored on another Scarlet wild pitch with Todd going all the way to third on the same wild pitch. Will Rippey singled with Todd scoring.  The throw to get Todd was late which allowed Rippey to go to second. Troy Gray had the lead at 3-1 and never looked back.

 

Scarlet was held scoreless in the bottom of the fourth.

 

In the top of the fifth, Troy Gray added three more runs.  Kenny Seger singled and stole second.  Evan Jones singled to the shortstop so Seger had to hold at second base. Kaito Taketani hit a hard ground ball to the shortstop who couldn’t handle it.  Taketani was safe on the error and Seger scored. Evan Jones then scored on another wild pitch which allowed Taketani to go all the way to third. Boston Roberts stayed hot and hit a single scoring Taketani from third. Troy Gray now had a 6-1 lead.

 

Scarlet was held scoreless in the bottom of the fifth.

 

Troy Gray wasn’t finished.  In the top of the sixth, Troy Gray padded their lead by scoring four more runs. All their scoring again came with two outs and the bases empty. Kenny Seger walked on four straight pitches then stole second.  Evan Jones ripped a double to left center field scoring Seger. Jones moves to third on a wild pitch. Kaito Taketani walked and stole second. Boston Roberts hit a double scoring Jones and Taketani. Luke Welker then singled, scoring Roberts. Troy Gray now led 10-1.

 

There was no scoring in the seventh inning and Troy Gray won 10-1.

 

Evan Jones earned the win for Troy Gray.  The starting pitcher scattered six hits, allowing one run over three innings of work.  Jones struck out five and walked only one batter.  Boston Roberts came into the game in relief keeping Troy Scarlet in check by throwing four complete innings giving up zero runs, one hit, six strike outs and no walks. Combined, Jones and Roberts struck out eleven and only walked one. Behind the plate, Luke Welker didn't allow a stolen base and threw out the Troy Scarlet player who attempted.  Troy Gray's defense helped in the win by committing no errors.

 

Troy Gray accumulated 11 hits in the win. Troy Gray saw four players having multiple hits. Evan Jones was 2 for 4 with a double and 2RBI’s. Boston Roberts went 2 for 4 with a double and 2RBI’s. Luke Welker also went 2 for 4 with 1RBI. Not to be left out, Wyatt Koester went 2 for 4 and Wes Todd went 1 for 2 with 2 walks.

Both teams were putting the ball in play, with the difference being Troy Scarlet leaving 6 runners on base in scoring position and allowed 4 passed balls and 3 wild pitches. Meanwhile Troy Gray only had 1 passed ball and 1 wild pitch.

Xenia - Troy Gray took its win streak to six games as they run rule Xenia 11-0.

 

With one out in the top of the first, Evan Jones hit a line drive single to center field then stole second. Kaito Taketani also singled to center field, but Jones was thrown out at the plate trying to score. With Boston Roberts at the plate, Taketani stole second and third. Roberts then hit a deep fly ball to center field, one hopping the fence for a run scoring double. Troy 1, Xenia 0.

In the top of the third, Troy Gray's first three batters hit hit back-to-back-to-back doubles.  Evan Jones hit a double to center field.  Followed by Kaito Taketani doubling to center field, scoring Evans. Boston Roberts doubled to center field scoring Taketani. Luke Welker then walked. Wyatt Koester's bunt single loaded the bases. Wes Todd then hit a line drive single to left field, scoring Welker and Roberts. Troy Gray was now up 5-0.

In the top of the fourth, Troy Gray waited until they had two outs and no one on to score one run. Boston Roberts hit a single. Luke Welker then hit a line drive single to right field advancing Roberts to third. Wyatt Koester then hit a ground ball down the third base line out of the reach of Xenia's third baseman to score Roberts.  Troy Gray 6, Xenia 0.

Troy Gray added five more runs in the top of the fifth. What seems to be the M.O. for Troy Gray this year, they didn't score until after having two outs and no one on. Kenny Seger singled, then stole second. Evan Jones walked. Troy Gray pulled a double steal with Seger going to third and Jones going to second. Kaito Taketani walked to load the bases. The Boston Roberts hit his third double of the game, one hopping the fence this time in left field, clearing the bases.  Luke Welker then hit a hard ground ball up the middle, scoring Roberts from second. Welker then stole second.  Wyatt Koester hit a fly ball single to center field, scoring Welker.  Troy Gray 11, Xenia 0.

 

Starting pitcher Kaito Taketani was locked in and threw a compete game shut out. Taketani only threw 55 pitches (41 for strikes) in the five inning run rule.  Taketani only gave up 3 hits, no runs, 6 strikeouts and 1 walk. Troy Gray's defense helped in the win by committing no errors.

 

Troy Gray accumulated 16 hits in the win with several players having multiple hits.  Boston Roberts stayed on fire going 4 for 4 with 3 doubles, a single and a team leading 4RBI's. Wyatt Koester also went 4 for 4 and had 2RBI's. Evan Jones went 2 for 3 with a double, a walk and 2RBI's. Luke Welker went 2 for 3, a walk and 1RBI. Kaito Taketani also went 2 for 3 with a double, a walk and 1RBI.

Jones Puts On Strong Contact Performance As Troy Gray Take The Win Over Greenville White

Troy - Troy Gray continues their win streak to seven games as they run rule Greenville White 17-0.

 

Troy Gray started their scoring in the home half of the first inning. Kenny Seger led the inning off with a single and moved to second on an error by Greenville White's shortstop. Evan Jones singled to right field scoring Seger. Jones stole second.  Kaito Taketani walked. Boston Roberts singled to load the bases. Luke Welker was hit-by-pitch forcing Jones home for the first score of the game. Wyatt Koester was out on a pop out (infield fly). The Greenville White second baseman made an error on the catch and an error on the throw to third attempting to force Roberts moving to third.  Those two errors scored Taketani and Roberts and advance Welker to third. Wes Todd then laid down a sacrifice bunt scoring Welker. Troy Gray 5, Greenville White 0

Troy Gray added six more runs in the bottom of the second. Liam Westerfield led off with a four pitch walk and then stole second and moved to third on the bad throw from the catcher to second base. Kenny Seger reached base on an error by a fielding error by Greenville White's second baseman. Westerfield scored and Seger went to second. Evan Jones hit a line drive single to right field, scoring Seger. Jones stole second. Kaito Taketani singled scoring Jones.  On the throw home to get Seger, Taketani advanced to second. Welker then singled to right field, scoring Taketani.  Welker was caught in a run down attempting to go to second and was tagged out. Wyatt Koester walked. Wes Todd singled. Will Rippey hit a fly ball single to left field, scoring Koester and Todd.  Rippey goes to second on the throw home attempting to get Todd. Troy Gray 11, Greenville White 0.

The bottom of the third saw Troy Gray score six more runs.  Miles Roesser reached first base on a throwing error by Greenville White's shortstop. Evan Jones singled. Kaito Taketani hit a single to center field loading the bases.  Luke Welker drew a bases loaded walk allowing Roesser to safely cross home plate. Waylon Smith proceeded to hit a double to right field scoring both Jones and Taketani and moving Welker to third. Wes Todd hit a line drive single to left field Scoring both Welker and Smith. Liam Westerfield walked. Miles Roesser hit a slow roller to Greenville White's second baseman and beat the throw scoring Todd.  Troy 17, Greenville White 0.

And that's how scoring ended, with a Troy Gray run rule.

Starting pitcher Luke Welker recorded the win for Troy Gray on the mound.  The right-hander surrendered one hit and zero runs over two innings of work.  Welker struck out three and walked none. Evan Jones came in middle relief.  Jones gave up two hits while striking out four, walking two and allowing zero runs.  Boston Roberts closed the game pitching one inning.  Roberts struck out all three batters he faced.

 

Troy Gray collected 13 hits for the game. Evan Jones led the team going 3 for 4 with 2BBI's. Wes Todd went 2 for 2 with 2RBI's. Kaito Taketani went 2 for 3, a walk and 1RBI. Waylon Smith was 1 for 1 (a double) and 2RBI's.  Tory Gray only struck out once the entire game.

Troy Gray Sweeps Season Series Versus Troy Scarlet With Win

Troy - Troy Gray extended their win streak to eight straight games by sweeping the season series versus Troy Scarlet with a 10-0 win at Market Street ball field on Saturday.

  

Both teams kept each other in check the first two innings. But things changed in the bottom of the third.

With one out in the bottom of the third, Evan Jones singled to center field. Kaito Taketani singled, putting runners on first and second. An out later, Troy Scarlet's catcher tried to catch Jones too far off third but his throw was off allowing Jones to score and Taketani going to second on the errant throw. Luke Welker then hit a line drive single to center field, scoring Taketani. Welker moved to second when the center fielder mishandled Welker's ball skipping on the turf. Wyatt Koester singled with a line drive to center, scoring Welker from second. Troy Gray 3, Troy Scarlet 0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Troy Gray added two more runs to their lead. Waylon Smith came in and pinched hit for Liam Westerfield.  Smith singled to right field. Westerfield then reinterred the game as the base runner. Evan Jones walked. Kaito Taketani doubled to center field scoring Westerfield and advancing Jones to third. Boston Roberts then singled up the middle to center field scoring Jones. Troy Gray 5, Troy Scarlet 0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Troy Gray scored one run. Liam Westerfield reached first on a throwing error by the Troy Scarlet shortstop.  The over throw allowed Westerfield to move to third. Kenny Seger hit into a fielders choice, with Westerfield being throw out at the plate attempting to score on the ball in play. A balk moved Seger to second. Evan Jones then hit a long triple to the fence in left field, easily scoring Seger from second. Troy Gray 6, Troy Scarlet 0.

Troy Gray put the game away in the bottom of the sixth by scoring four more runs.  Boston Roberts started the inning by hitting a pop-up single to right field, then went to second on a wild pitch. Welker hit an infield single moving Roberts to third. Welker then stole second. Roberts and Welker both score on a throwing error by the Troy Scarlet catcher. The next batter Wes Todd walked on four straight balls. Todd then stole second. Liam Westerfield proceeded to hit a double in the gap to right center field, scoring Todd. With two outs, a man on second and the one run away from a run rule, pinch hitter Logan Hackney came to the plate. Hackney was down 0-2 and on the third pitch, hits a fly ball single to left field scoring Westerfield and ending the game with a Troy Gray 10-0 run rule.

For the second start in a row, pitcher Kaito Taketani threw a complete game shut out.  In the two starts, Taketani has averaged only 13 pitches per inning.  He had a total of 13 K's and only 2BB's, no runs scored and threw 75% strikes.  He had help in those two outings by his teammates committing no errors.

At the plate, Troy Gray continued to accumulate double digit hits with 16.  Kaito Taketani went 3 for 4 with a double and 1RBI. Luke Welker also went 3 for 4 with 1RBI. Evan Jones went 2 for 3 with a triple and 1RBI. Wyatt Koester also went 2 for 3 and 1RBI. Liam Westerfield went 1 for 3 with a double and 1RBI. Pinch hitter Waylon Smith went 1 for 1 and pinch hitter Logan Hackney went 1 for 1 with the game winning, run rule RBI.

Troy Gray's defense hasn't committed an error in the past four games.

Boston Roberts Put On An Offensive Display Hitting A Two Run HR And A Grand Slam In The Troy Gray Win

Greenville - Troy Gray ended the regular season on a nine game win streak by defeating Greenville Green 9-1 at Greenville on Wednesday.

  

Boston Roberts put on an offensive display hitting not one, but two home runs. The first home run was a two run blast and an inning later, Roberts hit a base clearing grand slam.  He ended the day going 3 for 3 and 6RBI's.

There was no scoring in the first inning by either team. But in the bottom of the second, Greenville Green scored first and what was to be their only run.

It took Troy Gray until the top of the fourth to get their first run. With two outs, Boston Roberts walks. Luke Welker then hit a line drive double scoring Roberts to tie the game at 1-1.

Both teams were scoreless in the fifth inning.

In the top of the sixth, Troy Gray took the lead they would never give up by scoring two runs.  Kaito Taketani led the inning off with a lead off double. Boston Roberts came to the plate and hit his first home run of the game over the center field fence. Troy Gray 3, Greenville Green 1.

In the top of the seventh, Troy Gray added four more runs.  The inning started off with Miles Roesser inducing a walk. Kenny Seger was hit-by-pitch. Evan Jones walked to load the bases. Kaito Taketani singled, scoring Roesser and keeping the bases loaded.  Boston Roberts then hit the first pitch he saw and hit the left field foul pole above the fence for a base clearing grand slam. Luke Welker walked. Wyatt Koester reached base on an error by the Greenville Green shortstops which also allowed Welker to score.  And that's how the game ended. Troy Gray 9, Greenville Green 1.

Troy Gray threw five pitchers in the game, prepping for the upcoming MVL tournament. Evan Jones recorded the win for Troy Gray. He threw two innings of shutout baseball. Jones allowed no hits, no runs and struck out 3. Other pitchers seeing action was starter Liam Westerfield. He threw one inning, giving up one run, one hit and stuck out one. Boston Roberts threw one inning. Kaito Taketani threw one inning giving up no runs or hits and striking out one. Luke Welker tossed two innings of shut out baseball with one strike out.

Kaito Taketani went 2 of 4 (double) and 1RBI. Luke Welker went 1 for 3 (double) and 1RBI.  And Boston Roberts went 3 for 3 with a walk, a 2 Run HR and a grand slam with 6RBI's.

Troy Gray Surge Past Troy Scarlet in MVL Tournament Quarter Finals Thanks To Big Fourth Inning

Troy - Troy Gray extended their win streak to 10 games by defeating Troy Scarlet 10-0 in the quarter finals of the 2024 MVL Tournament. Thanks in part to a seven run fourth inning. 

Scoring didn't start until the second inning. Luke Welker hit a single up the middle then stole second. A single to right field by Wyatt Koester put Troy Gray on the board first scoring Welker from second.

Troy Gray then added to their lead in the third inning. A one out "seeing eye" pop-up single to right field by Evan Jones got things started. Kaito Taketani hit a deep fly ball to left center field putting runners on second and third. Boston Roberts hit a sacrifice fly deep enough to left field to score Jones from third. Taketani also scored on a throwing error by Troy Scarlet on the same play. 

The big fourth inning saw Kenny Seger drawing a bases load walk, scoring one run. Evan Jones singled, scoring a run.  Boston Roberts singled, scoring two runs.  Wyatt Koester hit into a bases loaded fielders choice, scoring one run and on the same play, Troy Scarlet third baseman committed a throwing error attempting to get Koester out at first base which allowed two more runs to cross the plate.

Kaito Taketani earned the win for Troy Gray. He gave up three hits, zero runs, striking out two and walking two over fourth innings of work. Evan Jones came in for one inning of relief to close the game.  The reliever gave up zero hits, striking out one and walking one.

Troy Gray out hit Troy Scarlet 8 to 3.  Players of note were Evan Jones going 3 for 3 and 1RBI. Luke Welker went 2 for 2 (with a double) and a walk. Troy Gray committed one error and Troy Scarlet committed two. 

NEXT GAME: MVL tournament semi finals - Saturday May 4th.  Weather permitting, the game will start a 1:30PM. The remaining games will be played in Greenville.  Troy Gray will be the home team (they are a #2 seed) and will play Piqua Red (#3 seed).

Troy Gray Comes Up Short in 7-8 Loss In MVL Tournament Semi Finals to Piqua Red

Piqua - Troy Gray fell one run short losing 7-8 in the MVL 2024 tournament semi finals on Saturday.

Piqua Red opened the scoring in the top of the first after Jace Palmer singled scoring one run,

Troy Gray took the lead in the bottom half of the first. after the Piqua Red pitcher balked and then the defense committed an error. Both  mistakes allowed one run.  Troy 2, Piqua Red 1.

In the top of the third, Piqua Red retook the lead on a passed ball.  Troy 2, Piqua Red 3.

In the bottom of the third, Troy Gray tied the game when Wes Todd hit into a fielders choice scoring the runner from third.  Troy 3, Piqua Red 3.

With the game still tied 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth, Troy scored three runs.  Evan Jones doubled,. Kaito Taketani singled and Boston Roberts doubled.  Troy 6, Piqua Red 3.

The top of the fifth saw Piqua Red flip the game on it's head by scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead the wouldn't relinquish 8-6.

Troy Gray was only able to muster one more run in the game in the bottom of the sixth. A walk to Evan Jones and then he stole second. Kaito Taketani hit a single into right field moving Jones to third. Boston Roberts grounded out to the shortstop but it allowed Jones to score.  Troy 7, Piqua Red 8.  And that's how the game ended.

Luke Welker started the game for Troy Gray.  He threw 3 1/3 innings allowing seven hits and three runs (2 earned), while striking out 5 and only walking 1. 

Boston Roberts drove the middle of the line-up, leading Troy Gray with 2RBI's going 1 for 3.  Kaito Taketani and Evan Jones were a force together in the line-up as they both collected two hits.  Troy Gray had a strong eye at the plate accumulating six walks for the game.  Troy Gray stole six bases. 

Troy Gray turned two double plays and didn't commit an error.
